The GAC GS3 Emzoom looks set to become a new fighter n the hotly contested local B-segment SUVs space.

It looks like the local B-segment crossover SUV segment will see stiffer competition very soon with the upcoming arrival of a brand new Chinese contender in the form of the GAC GS3 Emzoom. The model was recently sighted on our shores, likely indicating an official launch will take place soon.

Fuelling said speculation further is the fact that the model was sighted being near the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies (TCMA) plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. To refresh your memory, the GAC Motor brand has an existing partnership with Tan Chong Group affiliate WTC Automotif.

In terms of size, the GS3 Emzoom stands slightly longer, wider, and taller than rivals like the Proton X50, Chery Omoda 5, and Honda HR-V.

Clearly, said sighting is no coincidence, so our best guess is that the GS3 Emzoom is set to be localised and marketed as a locally assembled (CKD) model when it launches, perhaps sometime early next year. And based on the model’s specs seen overseas, there’s indeed plenty to look forward to.

Underpinning GAC Motor’s latest GPMA platform, the GS3 Emzoom is also marketed in its native Chinese home market as the Trumpchi GS3. It’s  striking and distinct design masks the fact that it stands slightly longer, wider, and taller in size over key rivals like the Proton X50, Chery Omoda 5, and Honda HR-V at 4,410 MM long with a 2,650 MM wheelbase, 1,850 MM wide, and 1,600 MM tall.

Under neath, the GS3 Emzoom packs a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo mill paired with a 7-speed DCT, the former poised to deliver segment-leading torque figure of 270 NM.

Underneath, the GS3 Emzoom appears to be on par with said Honda and Proton rivals by packing a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill paired with a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The mill boasts 177 HP and 270 NM output figures, with the latter set to make it the torquiest in class.

Altogether, the mill promises 0-100 KM/H dashes in 7.5 seconds plus a claimed fuel economy average of 6.8 litres/100 KM.

Overseas, the GS3 Emzoom boasts a rich list of kit and amenities primed on board. Highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay, as well as Level 2 ADAS.

On board, the GS3 Emzoom sold overseas offers a bevy of kit and amenities to keep it on par with said segment rivals too. Key highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity via 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and a bevy of active driver assist (ADAS) features promising Level 2 semi-autonomous driving abilities.

Surely, there’s enough here to make the likes of the rivalling Proton, Chery, and Honda contemporaries mentioned sweat a little. We can likely expect more details leading up to the GAC GS3 Emzoom’s official launch, which we speculate will likely happen in the early part of 2024.
