The design of the upcoming Renault 5 E-Tech has surfaced online, thanks to the leaked patent images

The design of the production version of the much-anticipated Renault 5 E-Tech has surfaced online ahead of its planned debut later at the 100th anniversary of the Geneva Motor Show next year. Published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), this set of images reveal that this EV supermini looks painstakingly similar to its concept twin revealed prior.

For starters, the 5 E-Tech sports a grill-less front look, featuring Renault’s newly-updated emblem at the centre, flanked by its sharp LED headlights. In place of a conventional front grille are three slim horizontal slats, plus a larger lower front opening that helps to channel cool air into the motors and batteries. Elsewhere, the 5 E-Tech also gets two black squares at either end of the bumper that house the LED DRLs with crosshair-style design.

From the side, you’ll see that the Renault 5 EV boasts a conventional four-door body style, with the rear door handles hidden in the C-pillar to give it a sportier three-door hatch look – just like the iconic Renault 5 Turbo. Apart from its blacked-out roof and pillars with a slew of red accents, we can also see that its charging port is located on the front quarter panel, as well as the stylish set of two-tone wheels this EV supermini rides on.

Things are a tad bit simpler as we get to the rear part of the 5 E-Tech, where this EV hatch sports vertical LED taillights with an intricate light signature. Its roof-mounted rear wing is also draped in black and red to match the roof and pillars, while a large chunk of its rear bumper is finished in black.

Official teaser images of the R5 E-Tech published by Renault showcase some interesting design cues

Ahead of these leaked images surfaced online, Renault has given us some teaser images of this EV supermini, where we get to see some of its design highlights. This includes a hood-mounted display panel that shows the car’s charging percentage, the flared-out fenders, and many more.

Though no exact measurements were shown on these leaked images, we’ve been told prior that the Renault 5 E-Tech is 3,920 MM long, thus making it shorter than some of its future rivals like the Volkswagen ID.2 and Peugeot E-208. More importantly, the 5 E-Tech underpins Renault’s new CMF-BEV platform (also known as the AmpR Small), which shares about 70% of its components with the CMF-B platform used on Renault ICE models like the Clio and Captur.

The much-anticipated Renault 5 E-Tech is set to make its global unveiling later at the centenary edition of the famed Geneva Motor Show in Feb 26, 2024. While the Europeans are due to receive this electric supermini, it remains to be seen whether Renault will launch the 5 E-Tech to other countries in Asia, including our local market.

Regardless of what Renault decides, we certainly think that this funky R5 E-Tech would make a great replacement for the ageing Renault Zoe EV hatch, as well as serving as a stellar rival to some burgeoning China-made EV hatches in our local market.
