Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the facelifted version of two of its SUVs, namely the GLA and GLB for the 2024 model year. The facelifted treatment sees both models now harnessing a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain, aside from minor styling updates.

Across all variants, the facelifted GLA and GLB sport mild exterior updates, starting with the new LED matrix headlights. Both models also get a redesigned grille, with the three-row GLB getting the sportier and rugged one. Apart from that, there’s also a new Spectral Blue Metallic hue option offered for both models, as well as either 18-inch or 20-inch wheels option – both hued in dual-tone finish.

As for the AMG versions, the AMG's Affalterbach emblems are now moved onto the front hood, while sporting the redesigned bumper and LED headlights like the standard versions.

The facelift treatment is somewhat more ‘drastic’ on board both models, as they now come with dual 10.25-inch displays on the dash as standard, with the infotainment system now supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay mobile connectivity. Both models' cabins are now primed with Nappa leather upholstery, draping both the steering wheel, front dash and seats.

There’s also an AMG Line styling package available for the non-AMG versions of both models, where it will include additional equipment such as a heated steering wheel – first-time appearing in both the GLA and GLB.

For the AMG GLA and GLB, the interiors are primed with a sporty AMG Performance steering wheel with double-stack control buttons, latest Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) operating software, as well as a slew of AMG-badged parts around them.

The Three-Pointed Star marque has fitted both the facelifted models with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cyl mill that is now mated with a new mild-hybrid system, featuring a belt-driven starter-generator. In total, this new setup outputs about 221 HP and 350 NM to boot.

As for the AMG models, they are also primed with the same mild-hybrid powertrain as the standard GLA and GLB, but re-tuned to output 302 HP and 400 NM – the same output as the pre-facelift models without the MHEV system. Paired with AMG-built 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, this setup grants the AMG GLA35 a 5.1 second finish in a 0-100 KM/H sprint, while the bigger AMG GLB35 is 0.3 seconds slower.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB, as well as their AMG variants are poised to commence deliveries starting later this year. The German marque has yet to unveil the exact prices for these updated models.

For reference, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) currently listed the locally-assembled (CKD) Mercedes-Benz GLA250 AMG Line for RM287,888, while the Mercedes-AMG GLA35 4Matic – also CKD in MBM’s Pekan plant – is priced at RM370,888. As for the GLB, the fully-imported (CBU) Mercedes-Benz GLB250 is priced at RM339,888, while its sportier AMG twin, the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic commands a heftier price tag of RM408,888.
