Geely officially launched the Galaxy E8 (Yinhe E8) in China earlier today, making it the first EV from the marque's Galaxy series to go on sale.

Chinese automaking giant Geely reportedly saw its line-up grow in its home market of China following the official debut of the new Geely Galaxy E8 (also known as the Geely Yinhe E8) EV fastback saloon earlier today.

This is the production-ready follow up of the Galaxy Light concept Geely showed last year. As you can probably guess, this is yet another new creation that underpins Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform. It sees this sleek four-door fastback stand related to other EVs like the Lotus Eletre and Emeya, Zeekr 001 and 009 (Volvo EM90), as well as the recently launched smart #1.

The Galaxy E8’s debut marks a significant milestone as it is presented as the first all-electric model from Geely’s new ‘Yinhe’ series. In China, up to five guises are available, and the range is priced between RMB175,800 to RM228,800 (approx. RM115,097 to RM149,796).

Underneath, the Galaxy E8 underpins the Geely SEA platform. Depending on variant, both 400-volt and 800-volt architecture versions are available, as are single- and dual-motor choices.

The range begins with the 550KM Pro and 550KM Max variants, both primed with the same 62 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type battery pack that promises up to 550 KM of driving range (based on CLTC cycle). Above which comes the 665KM Long Range and 665 KM Smart Driving guises that boasts a larger 76 kWh LFP battery pack promising up to 665 KM (CLTC) of driving range.

Capping the range off is a flagship 620KM Performance variant. Unlike the rest, which harnesses a 400-volt EV architecture, said range-topper benefits with a higher 800-volt EV architecture rating. In turn, this sees said range-topper benefit with a higher 360 kW DC charging input ability, which promises 10-80% recharges in just 18 minutes.

That aside, it’s also worth noting that V2L function comes as standard across the board. Typical of the SEA platform, both single-motor (rear-wheel-drive, or RWD) and dual-motor (all-wheel-drive, or AWD) setups are available.

Five guises in total are available, and the range-topping 620KM Performance boasts Porsche Taycan GTS-equally outputs and abilities - 647 HP, 0-100 KM/H in 3.49 seconds, and 210 KM/H V-Max.

The variant with the longest range boasts up to 665 KM of which based on CLTC test cycles.

The least peppy of the lot boasts 268 HP (200 kW) and 343 NM, promising 0-100 KM/H sprints in 5.95 seconds plus a 190 KM/H V-Max, whilst the peppiest has 637 HP (475 kW) and 710 NM instead, allowing 0-100 KM/H in just 3.49 seconds too.

The latter figures stem from the 620KM Performance range-topper mentioned, and it sees closely match the Porsche Taycan GTS. In fact, this Chinese fastback is actually quicker than said ‘driver’s-spec’ variant of the Taycan in the century sprint, only losing out to said German on top speed – 210 KM/H.

On board, Geely has primed the Galaxy E8 with a 45-inch "unbound" 8K display that dominates the dash.

On board, Geely endowed the Galaxy E8 with a novel 45-inch “unbounded” 8K display spanning nearly the entire width of the dash. Complementing that is a 25.6-inch augmented reality (AR)-enabled heads-up display (HUD), all powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip running Geely’s Galaxy N-OS software.

Other  features primed include a 256-colour cabin ambient light suite, cooled 50-watt wireless smartphone charger, 8- or 12-speaker audio setups, as well as powered front seats featuring ventilation and heating functions built into them.

Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving abilities are granted thanks to ADAS features powered by 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras, and one LIDAR sensor.

Geely also lined this sleek sports sedan with a host of active driver assist (ADAS) features all powered by a range of 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras, plus one LIDAR sensor. Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving abilities are borne out of which, as a result.

Geely plans to offer the Galaxy E8 in China first starting this month. Beyond which, Geely also noted its intent on offering it overseas, but the timeline to which remains unclear for the moment.
