As expected, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) have finally taken the veil off the limited-run special of the outgoing fifth generation Triton pick-up truck model it teased last week. Dubbed the Mitsubishi Triton AT Premium, it stands out thanks to various aesthetic upgrades it is brimmed with.
This special ups the ante from the existing Triton AT Premium by sporting an exclusive White Diamond paintjob matched with racy decals in its rear doors, flatbed fenders, and tailgate. Other additions include a sports bar, door visors, as well as Triton Phantom Plus-esque black wheel arch claddings.
Rolling stock also appears to be the same black-finished units lifted from the Phantom Plus special, and these are shod in off-road-biased Yokohama rubber. Notable too is the visibly different front bumper design that mirrors closely to that seen in the range-topping Triton Athlete variant.
Aesthetics upgrades in the cabin, on the other hand, are limited to the addition of illuminated scuff plates, as well as headrests that sport matching racy graphics as the exterior’s decals. Beyond which, little else has changed, and this applies to this special limited-run variant’s mechanical bits too.
Under the hood, it’s business as usual here through the adoption of a 2.4-litre 4-cyl MIVEC turbo-diesel lump outputting 181 PS and 430 NM. As its name implies, said mill is paired with a 6-speed automatic box matched with Mitsubishi’s signature Easy Select 4WD driveline.
Retained too are much of the existing Triton AT’s key amenities and on board tech, namely halogen headlamps, keyless ignition, touchscreen infotainment offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control cruise control, as well as leatherette upholstery.
It’s a similar story on the safety front as the Triton AT Premium sees the inclusion of dual aribags, ABS with EBD and BA, Active Stability Control, traction control, hill-start assist and hill-descent control, trailer stability assist, reverse camera, not forgetting a digital video recorder (DVR, or ‘dashcam’).
MMM did not mention how many units this new Mitsubishi Triton AT Premium will be limited to, but did instead confirmed its RM135,900 price tag sans insurance – the same as the regular Triton AT Premium. Included in said price too is MMM’s usual offer of a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty.
No word yet on when MMM will launch the new sixth generation Triton model, but this is widely lauded to take place later this year. This is perhaps the last special version of the current-gen Triton to debut before said new generation replacement eventually makes landfall.
