As announced during its media conference event earlier this year, Chery Malaysia is poised to introduce the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro into our market following the debut of its first EV model, the Omoda E5. Ahead of its planned debut later in Q2 this year, Chery has decided to open the registration of interests (ROI) for its upcoming C-segment SUV model.
Previewed for the first time in Malaysia back in 2022, the Tiggo 7 Pro is poised to compete against the likes of the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Hyundai Tucson in the competitive C-segment SUV market space. Positioned below the three-row Tiggo 8 Pro, the Tiggo 7 Pro measures 4,513 MM long, 1,842 MM wide, and 1,746 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 2,670 MM.
In terms of styling, the Tiggo 7 Pro retains much of the design DNA present on both the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 4 Pro, featuring a typical boxy SUV bodystyle with several sharp-edged design elements, with the main highlight being its sizable polygonal front grille flanked by sharp LED headlights. Elsewhere, this C-SUV also rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, while its tailgate is equipped with LED taillights plus a full-width light bar.
As per any Chery vehicle, the Tiggo 7 Pro cabin is equipped with a host of modern creature comforts. Key highlights include the massive dual 24.6-inch screens with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, ventilated and powered front seats, a wireless charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, a Sony hi-fi audio system, and many more.
On the powertrain front, we can expect the Malaysian-bound Chery Tiggo 7 Pro to arrive in full-ICE form, which features a 1.6-litre 4-cyl TGDi petrol mill rated at 197 HP and 290 NM, which is paired to a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Depending on the variant, drive goes to either the front- (FWD) or all wheels (AWD), promising 0-100 KM/H sprints in an equally respectable 8.3 seconds.
Safety-wise, the Tiggo 7 Pro also comes with no less than 17 active driving assist (ADAS) features, promising Level 2 semi-autonomous driving abilities. Together with other passive and standard safety features, the Tiggo 7 Pro managed to bag a full 5-star ANCAP crash-test rating recently.
As of now, the firm has yet to reveal any tentative prices for the upcoming Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which is poised to be locally-assembled (CKD) at Chery Malaysia's production facility in Inokom Kulim, Kedah. But as per other Chery models we’ve seen so far, we can expect the Tiggo 7 Pro to be positioned slightly higher than the Proton X70, while at the same time undercutting some of its Japanese counterparts like the newly-launched Honda CR-V and the facelifted Mazda CX-5.
