As part of its product strategy for the years leading up to 2030, Audi has announced a complete renaming of all of its models beginning this year. This strategy includes the firm classifying between all electrified models and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles through a new name formation.

Online international news reports indicate that more than half of the new cars will be converted to electric vehicles. Therefore, it's imperative for the automaker to implement the naming strategy as part of its adaptation which guarantees its fellow customers know and aware of the new name labelling.

Speaking at the company’s 2023 Annual Media Conference, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann confirmed the carmaker’s movement to restructure the whole naming convention. Upon this new development strategy, the automaker vowed to replace almost all of its EV models using even numbers, name tagging for ICE-powered models would likely to use odd digits.

This involves having its A3, A5, and A7 nameplates will be used for combustion-powered models, while the A4, A6, and A8 will be the names for future EV models. The exec went on saying that the switchover to this naming scheme has already begun with the introduction of the Q8 e-tron name on the facelift model which was formerly known as the Audi e-tron.

Additionally, it guarantees that the luxury crossover will undergo its own mid-cycle update later this year, after which the current gas-powered Q8 SUV may be renamed a Q9. From there, the automaker also intended to launch more than 20 new or updated vehicles by the end of 2025, beginning with a new Q6 e-Tron electric compact crossover due in the second half of 2023.
