Thierry Bollore, CEO of Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), announced his resignation from said post earlier this week. The move was confirmed through an official announcement released by Jaguar Land Rover in which the firm adds that Bollore’s departure came on the grounds of “personal reasons”.

Prior to his appointment as CEO at the Tata-owned JLR brand in Sept 2020, Bollore helmed the positions of executive vice president for manufacturing and supply chain, chief competitive officer, chief operating officer, chief executive officer at Renault where he served for eight years.

The 59-year-old Frenchman is set to vacate the position effective from Dec 31, 2022. After which, JLR will see current CFO Adrian Mardell stepping up as its interim CEO. Additionally, Mardell is also a long-time member of JLR’s executive board spanning over three decades since he joined in 1990.

“The foundations for a successful transformation have been laid, leaving the company well poised for the future,” said Mr Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover plc upon Bollore’s resignation announcement in which he also thanked the Frenchman for his efforts at  JLR.

What’s surprising is the fact that Bollore’s departure comes just under two years after his dramatic announcement of implementing a wide-reaching transformation plan for JLR under the ‘Re-imagine’ banner. Said effort saw JLR make a strong push and recalibrate its focus towards electrifying its product line-up, decarbonising its operations, and bolster the build quality of its cars.

More details about this rather unexpected move is likely to be revealed soon.
