MITI Receives A Visit From Tesla

Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Malaysia's minister of international trade and industry, announced Tesla's official presence in the country just a few days ago.

According to the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tesla is the first applicant to its BEV Global Leaders programme, which aims to increase demand for electric vehicles in the country.   

The ministry also approved Tesla's application to import electric vehicles into Malaysia.


Following the announcement, Tengku Zafrul received a visit from Tesla to further discuss Tesla's project implementation & future expansion in Malaysia.

While Tesla's official entry into Malaysia has been confirmed, the timeline and which Tesla vehicles will first arrive in the country are unknown. However, based on previous trends, the brand's most affordable models; the Model 3 and Model Y may be the first to arrive.


Even in Thailand, those two EV models were the first to hit the local market late last year and are available in multiple versions.

Tesla's presence in Malaysia is expected to create professional and higher-paying job opportunities in the BEV segment, as well as increase local company participation in the TESLA ecosystem, both domestically and globally.
