BMW Group Malaysia has quietly begun accepting online Registration Of Interest (ROI) for the upcoming new and all-electric BMW X1 crossover. Globally unveiled in June last year, the iX1 stands as the electrified twin of the new third-gen BMW X1 (chassis code: U11).

Though the registration page dishes out several details, price remains undisclosed for now. It’s almost certain that the iX1 will be introduced in dual-motor xDrive30 guise, which packs a sizeable 64.7 kWh battery capable of delivering a maximum travel range of 440 KM (WLTP).

As for charging, 130 kW DC inputs roughly grants 120 KM of travel with just 10 minutes of charging, or 10% to 80% charges in 29 minutes. AC charging at a rate of 11 kW sees full recharges done in 6 hours and 30 minutes (11 kW), or 3 hours and 45 minutes instead should you plug in to a 22 kW AC charger instead.

Whilst on charging still, the iX1 will also feature a Combined Charging Unit. It works by reducing charging rate gradually after a certain point to manage temperatures instead of dropping its rate through steps, thus helping to shorten charge times.

In terms of output and performance, this guise of the iX1 promises a combined 313 PS (with temporary boost) and 494 NM. With each motor primed over each axle driving all four wheels, 0-100 KM/H is despatched in just 5.7 seconds whilst V-max stands as a restricted 180 KM/H.

On board, key tech features present will include things like the new 12.3-inch BMW Curved Display suite offering novel new touch and voice control interfaces, which also works in tandem with a 10.7-inch central touchscreen unit, as well as a wireless charging pad.

Notably here in the cabin too is the novel new cabin design that mirrors the U06-gen 2 Series Active Tourer. Key traits of which include a large central air vent with twin air vents in front of the front passenger, new centre console housing an upright storage space, and a floating armrest that houses the gear selector.

No word on availability just yet, but given how these things usually pan out from ROI stage, we’re certain it won’t be long before BMW Group Malaysia official launches the iX1 locally. When it does, it will perhaps give rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQA and the Volvo XC40/C40 Recharge duo something to sweat about.
