While rivals Toyota have teased their battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept version of its venerable Hilux pick-up truck some time back, it seems it will face competition from rivals Mitsubishi if their latest road map released this week is anything to go by.

Dubbed the “Challenge 2025” plan, this medium-term strategy sees Mitsubishi planning no less than 16 new models altogether, comprised of both regular combustion-powered and electrified – partial and full – offerings including a successor to its venerable Triton pick-up truck.

Current-gen Mitsubishi Triton Plantom Plus special edition launched in 2022.

Expected to arrive later this year, the Triton’s successor shown in the roadmap images were veiled, but its new lighting signature plus its familiar boxy profile can be clearly seen. In fact, all of which bore hints that it will share the same underpinnings as the Nissan Navara.

More interestingly though, it appears Mitsubishi will also develop a new and all-electric pick-up truck offering alongside it. Judging from the veiled silhouette, we’re certain this EV pick-up truck will be very different from the Navara-based next-gen Triton successor.

No specific details were revealed, but we will likely see at least an initial concept of this new electric pick-up truck before it enters production.

As for the Navara-based Triton replacement, the same ladder frame platform will likely also spawn a Pajero Sport SUV successor too. Reports indicate that the Triton’s replacement will debut first sometime later this year, whereas its full-bodied SUV twin will come later.

Mitsubishi 'Challenge 2025' product plans comprised of both combustion-powered and electrified new models.

Triton replacement an EV pick-up truck aside, the strategy also sees Mitsubishi poised to offer a range of 8 electrified models too. Amongst them include a new hybrid version of its Xpander crossover MPV, new Colt hatchback, and a pair of SUVs with 2-rows of seats.

An electrified (hybrid) version of the Xpander is poised to emerge very soon too.

As for its combustion-powered range, this will get boosted with a new SUV offering 3-rows of seats, a new MPV, a production version of the XFC Concept, as well as a new Kei car model besides the Triton and Pajero Sport replacements mentioned.

Additionally, Ito make all these new models possible, Mitsubishi notes that it will heighten its R&D investment plus amplify its collaboration with the other two members of the Alliance it is part of - Renault and Nissan.
