Premiering at the India Auto Expo 2023 event this week, the new Suzuki eVX Concept crossover SUV is a design study that previews an all-electric high-riding compact crossover that’s set to go into production very soon.

Borne out of Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki, the eVX Concept is roughly the same size as the S-brand’s current S-Cross model. It measures 4,300 MM long, 1,800 MM wide, and about 1,600 MM tall.

The overall aesthetic is undoubtedly aggressive and even slightly sporty. Its design features, including its short overhangs and prominent flanks, will undoubtedly influence the production model. Notable design touches include the upright front fascia that eliminates the notion of a purely decorative grille and draws attention to a sizable, illuminated Suzuki badge.

Aside from that, the slanted rear glass and dipping roofline resembles the appearance of a coupe SUV. The rear is also dominated by a single uninterrupted light bar that appears to lift entirely with the hatch.

Under the hood, the eVX concept sees Suzuki priming it with a 60 kWh battery pack that promises a maximum travel range of up to 550 KM. However, the quoted figure is based on the Indian MIDC driving cycle, which is somewhat less accurate compared to European WLTP or the US EPA cycles.

According to Suzuki’s President Toshihiro Suzuki, he claims that the eVX stands as the brand’s “first global strategic EV.” He further adds that Suzuki will continue providing valuable products to customers worldwide by optimising them for the way different people live and drive.

The company also recently disclosed that it had partnered with Inmotive Inc., a company based in Ontario, Canada, to create a two-speed transmission for electric cars. Said hardware will likely make its way into the production-bound version of this concept.

Besides the Indian market, where Suzuki intends to market and sell the production version of this latest concept remains unknown. Given that it is being developed by its Indian subsidiary, Maruti-Suzuki, it is possible that this vehicle will only be sold in Asia and perhaps Europe, which are essentially the regions where the brand currently operates.
