Marking its first appearance on Malaysian soil at this week’s Malaysia Autoshow 2023 is the Peugeot e-2008. First shown globally back in 2019, this is the all-electric variant of the French marque’s compact crossover SUV, and it’s on display in the show’s dedicated electric vehicles (EV) section at MAEPS Hall D.
On the surface, this EV offshoot mirrors its combustion-powered twin, so you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference indeed. Tell-tale signs are in the obvious little details, namely the absence of an exhaust tailpipe, and the switch to a charging port where the traditional fuel filler flap is.
Similar to the combustion-powered 2008, key exterior design highlights include Peugeot’s striking signature front grille design, triple-claw-themed forward and rear LED lighting design with fang-like LED DRLs up front, as well as the chiseled and muscular body lines plus stylish 18-inch allow wheels.
Inside, the e-2008 again mirrors its combustion twin by featuring the same Peugeot i-Cokcpit base dash design and layout. The dash features rich use of soft-touch plastics, high-end upholstery options such as Alcantara and Nappa leather, and faux carbon fibre trims on the dash and door cards.
Key features present include a 10-inch free-standing centre infotainment touchscreen primed with navigation plus both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electronic gearlever assembly, and a nifty covering the wireless smartphone charging pad designed to let you prop your phone upright.
Over on to the powertrain, the Peugeot e-2008 adopts a front-mounted single electric motor rated at 134 HP (or 100 kW) and 260 NM. Juiced by a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, 0-100 KM/H takes around 10 seconds whilst V-max stands at 150 KM/H, according to Peugeot.
As for charging, Peugeot says the e-2008 accepts regular both AC charging up to 11 kW and rapid DC charging up to a rate of 200 kW. Full charges via the former takes roughly 4.5 hours whilst the latter promises 0-80% charges in just 30 minutes. With a full charge, the e-2008 boasts a WLTP range of 320 KM.
With its display at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 this week, brand custodians Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAuto) is presumably gauging public reception of the model, and this could prove pivotal towards the model’s possible introduction into the local market. Presently, the firm hasn’t shared any plans for which yet.
You can size up the Peugeot e-2008 for yourself during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 this week in MAEPS Hall D.
