There’s indeed much hype being built around the upcoming new installment of the Transformers film franchise, titled Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts. Like before, much of this hype is being fuelled by the cars – and other vehicles – that’s set to star in the film.

One of which is the silver and blue-striped Porsche 911 which, as revealed officially by Porsche this week, isn’t your regular 911 from the 1990s, which is when the film is set. In fact, the model featured is an extremely rare Carrera RS 3.8 that's based off of the 964-generation 911.

Rare 1-of-55 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8 lands a starring role in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, which
hits theatres this week.

Just 55 units of this race-derived homologation special were built, each packing 296 HP from its signature nat-asp 3.8-litre flat (‘boxer’) 6-cyl mounted in the rear. This version of the 964-gen 911 also featured a wider body derived from the 911 Turbo of the same vintage, as well as a lightweight, stripped out interior that made it perfect for track and competition use.

Regarded as a modern classic today, the 964-gen Carrera RS model is also one that's highly sought-after prizes for collectors via auctions.

Given its rarity, five replicas were specially built for filming and stunt use. However, both filmmakers and Porsche confirmed that an original was also used to provide the sound for the film, and we’re certain this is the sort of accuracy both car fans and Porsche-philes alike can appreciate when watching the film.

Both filmmakers and Porsche revealed that five replicas were built for filming, but an original Carrera RS 3.8 was also used to supply an authentic on-screen sound.

“It was important to us to represent the sound of the 911 model depicted in the film,” said Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of Porsche Cars North America. “It was extremely ambitious due to the number of cars needed from a limited production 911, but we are thrilled with the result and hope audiences are too.”

In the new film, the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 stars as an Autobot named Mirage, who is part of a new faction of Transformers called the Maximals. “The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is perfect not just because the film plays in 1994, but also because of the character traits of ‘Mirage,’” said Oliver Hoffmann, head of marketing communications at Porsche.

“He’s a tough character with a good heart and a bit of a rebellious streak now and again,” adds the exec about the character who will also likely stand as an ally to central characters like Optimus Prime.

Other vehicles set to feature in this film range from iconic JDM sportscars to classic American muscle cars too,
plus some trucks and bikes.

Rare Porsche aside, Transformers: Rise Of The Beast is also set to feature several other notable vehicles that range from iconic JDM sportscars to classic American muscle cars – which we’ve detailed before here. The film hits local silver screens starting this week from June 8 onwards.
