For all you who were waiting for the All New ASX being something special and something new from the three-diamond brand, you might be disappointed. It pretty much looks like the Renault Capture rebadged. The ASX which is developed on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform specifically for the European market in Renault's Valladolid plant in Spain and will hit showrooms in March 2023.
Sleek and Bold lines matching the Three-Diamond badge.
As described by Mitsubishi, the new generation ASX “features a flowing silhouette from the front to the rear, and the character line which rises toward the rear combines with the floating roof to give the vehicle a dynamic styling that expresses its agile driving”. This we have to agree with, the car does actually look good. It has good lines and a pleasant design that would please potential buyers.
The new ASX will be offered in a wider range of powertrain options beginning with the the entry level 1-litre turbocharged petrol option mated with a 6-speed manual transmission making 90HP. A mild hybrid model combining a 1.3-liter direct injection turbo engine with an option of either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed double-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT) which is offered in either 140HP or 155HP variant.
The third powertrain offering is the full hybrid (HEV) model powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors driven by an automatic, multi-mode gearbox, and a 1.3 kWh battery producing 141HP. And finally the range topping plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors (an alternator-starter and a main motor) driven by an automatic, multi-mode gearbox, and a 10.5 kWh battery generating 160HP.
While on the inside, the new generation ASX will offer a spacious cargo area and sliding rear bench seats to enhance user convenience. Standard offering includes a Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) located at the centre of the instrument cluster, and a Multi-Sense system for drive mode selection. Buyer will be given the option of getting their ASX either with 10.25-inch 3D navigation centre display or a 9.3-inch display offering Android-auto and Apple-carplay. Other safety features offered are MI-PILOT single-lane driver assistance technology for highways, that integrates Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Centering Assist (LCA). Mitsubishi has not announced any prices for the new-generation ASX as of yet.
