Subaru has unveiled the replacement for its XV SUV which arrives in sportier design and a plug-in hybrid model displaying Crosstrek badge globally.

The car maker has only revealed an AWD hybrid Crosstrek for the domestic market, however the full drivetrain line-up has not been released.

Under the hood, the powertrain appears to be a variant of the brand's existing 2.0-litre e-Boxer powertrain, which combines a 110kW and 196Nm petrol engine with a 12.3kW and 66Nm electric motor linked to a lithium-ion battery.

Subaru Crosstrek is built on a version of the Subaru Global Platform that also underpins the latest Levorg and WRX. As the new Crosstrek's outputs have yet to be confirmed, it claims improvements have been applied to reduce vibrations and noise in the engine aside using Lineartronic CVT.

According to the automaker, the new model claims to have better noise and vibration suppression than the current XV on top of smoother ride by being more rigid than before.

The new model seems to be smaller on the outside than the outgoing XV, measuring 4480mm (-5mm) long, 1800mm (unchanged) wide, and 1580mm (-35mm) tall with a wheelbase of 2670mm (+5mm). However, the longer wheelbase should offer to free up more interior space.

Also onboard, the cabin closely resembles Levorg and WRX including an 11.6-inch infotainment system dominating the dashboard.

As confirmed, the rear seats will fold 60:40. With the rear seats in place, the previous XV Hybrid has only 310 litres of space while the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is still remain unknown.

The latest version of Subaru's EyeSight safety system will be available, and it will include a wide-angle mono camera to supplement the colour stereo cameras.

Subaru claims that its stereo camera now has a wider field of vision than before, and its software has been updated to better recognise objects in its peripheral vision.

Safety aspects should include a refined version of the Adaptive Cruise, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring, And Lane-Change Assist Systems as found in Subaru's current line-up.
