The new ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo from Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles made their international debut in Hamburg. Volkswagen is delivering yet another alternative to sustainable and CO2-free mobility with Europe's first all-electric bus and transporter series.

With the latest ID. software and the latest systems and functionalities for safety, comfort, and charging, the ID. Buzz sets new benchmarks in its area.

The ID. Buzz, like all of Volkswagen Passenger Car's ID. models, is built by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover and is based on the Group's Modular Electric Drive Kit in terms of engineering (MEB).

The world's first scalable mass manufacturing platform for all-electric vehicles serves as a cross-brand foundation for a wide range of models and categories. Its architecture enables for evolutionary software and technological development, which helps not only new models like the ID. Buzz, but also models that have previously been supplied via over-the-air updates.

Moreover, the support systems in the new model line are designed to make driving easier and safer. Buzz and ID are included as standard in the ID. Buzz Cargo is the 'Car2X' local warning system, which detects risks in real time using signals from other vehicles and the transportation infrastructure.

The 'Front Assist' emergency braking feature and, in the MPV, the 'Lane Assist' lane-keeping assistant are also standard. New help functions are being added to the ID. family as a result of new software. 'Travel Assist with swarm data' is an optional feature that allows for partially automated driving over the entire speed range and, for the first time, assisted lane-changing on the highway. The 'Memory Function,' which allows for autonomous parking on a previously saved route, is also new.

With a 77 kWh battery, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo will be available across Europe (gross energy content: 82 kWh). It feeds power to a 150 kW electric motor, which drives the back axle in the same way that the flat engine did in the T1. The battery's deep integration in the sandwich floor, along with the lightweight electric drive system, results in a well-balanced weight distribution and a low vehicle centre of gravity.

Both of these qualities improve handling and agility. The lithium ion battery can be charged using 11 kW alternating electricity from wall boxes or public charging stations (AC). The charging power at a DC rapid-charging station (direct current) increases to as much as 170 kW via a CCS plug connector.

Also, The model line will provide the 'Plug & Charge' capability in the future, thanks to the latest ID. software. The ID. Buzz uses the ISO 15118 standard to authenticate itself at compatible DC rapid-charging stations via the charging connector.

This method also allows it to exchange all essential data with the charging station, which is a bonus. The ID. Buzz may feed unneeded energy from the battery into the customer's home network thanks to bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Home). A unique DC bi-directional wall box is used for power transfer and communication.

In a spaciously designed interior, ID. Buzz drivers and passengers experience the new Bulli vibe. The arrangement is obvious, the concept is well thought out, and the space utilisation is optimal, as is typical with Bulli. Five passengers have plenty of room for travel and luggage in the MPV version's lounge-like, pleasant atmosphere (1,121 litres of capacity).

Apparently, the cargo capacity grows to 2,205 litres when the second row of seats is folded down. The ID. Buzz Cargo has two or three seats up front, depending on the customer's preference, and a fixed partition dividing the 3.9 m3 cargo compartment. Two loaded euro pallets can be loaded transversely in the zero-emission cargo variant.

The large wheelbase of 2,988 mm, which is nearly the same as the contemporary T6.1, is one feature of the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo. Both models have a length of 4,712 mm. The vehicle footprint is made optimally use of thanks to a particularly lengthy wheelbase in relation to the overall length.

The two versions of ID. Buzz, including the roof aerial, measure 1,937 mm or 1,938 mm in height, depending on the specification. The new model is 81 mm wider than the T6.1 at 1,985 mm. Meanwhile, the 11.1-metre turning circle is very narrow.

In the case of the T1, the first Bulli, design had already taken precedence over function. The ID. Buzz's design follows the core precept of automobile construction: form follows function. The ID. Buzz has a drag coefficient of 0.285 - 0.29, and the trademark clean forms are complimented by superb aerodynamics. Cargo. As a result, energy consumption is reduced while range is increased.

This autumn, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo will be available in the first few European nations. In May, advance sales will begin. Volkswagen of America will also kick off the resurrection of the so-called microbus in the United States and Canada with the ID. Buzz.
