Days ahead of its official launch, the Volvo EX30 has been leaked again. To make things worse, this time the leak came directly from the Swedish marque’s official website, through a configurator.

Said configurator was online on the website for a brief time on Friday last week, before being taken down for obvious reasons. However, several auto enthusiasts managed to screengrab a few shots of the ‘baby EX90’, which has spread throughout the web.

Unlike the previous patent images leak, this time we can clearly see the EX30 design, which shares plenty of traits with Volvo’s latest flagship EV, the Volvo EX90. This includes the revised Mjolnir LED headlights, C40 Recharge-esque LED taillights design featuring prominent C-shaped elements, and many more.

The only noticeable difference between the EX30 and EX90 is in size, as the former is literally a baby version of the latter. To add, InsideEVs reported that the EX30 will be even smaller than Volvo’s current compact EV SUV model, the Volvo XC40 Recharge.

Apart from that, another not-too-obvious difference between the two includes the two-tone black finish on the roof, as well as the wheel design – the latter was not visible on the leaked patent images.

As reported by Autocar, the EX30 will be offered with two variants, both boasting different EV setup. The unnamed baseline variant will sport a smaller 51-kWH lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, while the up-specced variant comes with a bigger 69-kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery. Paired with a rear-mounted electric motor setup (RWD), the NCM-battery variant can juices the EX30 for a maximum EV range of up to 480 KM.

Aside from that, Volvo promises the EX30 will be the marque’s most environmentally-friendly model to date, with a carbon footprint 25% lower than that of the existing C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge. This reduction is thanks to the broad usage of recycled materials that comprises of up to 17% of the car’s steel and plastic materials and 25% of its aluminium.

As for the safety equipment, we can’t be sure whether the EX30 will emulate its bigger brother on this front. For reference, the EX90 is laced with a bevy of safety equipment, including five radars, eight cameras and up to 16 ultrasonic sensors that all work in-tandem to offer segment-leading self-driving functionality.

The Volvo EX30 will make its global debut later in June 7th, 2023. By then, we’ll get to know all about this new compact EV crossover from Sweden, including its tentative price that is said to be around $45,000 (RM207,000 approx.).
