The new BMW 3 Series (G20) LCI was recently launched in Malaysia. It has gotten a facelift, and now comes with a new look and a big bump in interior technology.
Available in petrol and plug-in hybrid setups, BMW Malaysia is offering the G20 LCI range in three variants, which are all exclusively available in M Sport trim.
Locally-assembled (CKD), the prices start from MYR 283,800 for the 320i M Sport, and MYR 317,800 for the 330i M Sport. The 330e M Sport plug-in hybrid is priced at MYR 298,800.
Prices are (OTR, w/o insurance), and include BMW’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty, free scheduled service programme, roadside assistance, the BMW Group Loyalty+ app, BMW Privileges Card, and BMW Service Online.
The new BMW G20 LCI measures at 4,709 MM long, 1,827 MM wide, 1,435 MM tall, weighs 1,600 KG (1,845 KG – 330e), and a wheelbase spanning 2,851 MM.
It still exudes a muscular and athletic looking front end. The kidney grille has been given a slight redesign. Octagonal in shape, it now sees each vertical louvre in a double-bar style.
The facelift has decked it out with M Sport kit as standard, featuring a sportier front bumper with a large hexagonal lower intake, flanked by angular upswept design gloss black side inserts.
At the rear, it gets a slightly robust but still sporty look for the overall design. It features clean and seamless contours that give a combo of elegant and aggressive.
Also, thanks to the M Sport kit, it sees a bumper that has a large bottom section in black that extends up the sides sportily.
It is further paired with a diffuser element, set between the two exhaust finishers that measure 90 MM or 100 MM in diameter depending on the engine.
It gets a pair of sharp and angular-shaped headlamps with full adaptive LED units and L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). It also has a high-beam assistant function.
The positioning of the headlights is slanted inwards to give it a fierce looking face and the sharp angular-design gives the front a more focused and athletic look.
The tail lamps are fitted with LED combination units. The large L-styled wraparound design has been shaped to match with the front end.
Slim and slit-like, it holds a very commanding layout of the rear, gelling well with all the other sporty elements present.
The side mirrors are power adjusted and folded, with turn- and blind spot-indicators.
It gets M sport brakes with blue callipers (330i/330e).
Fitted is a set of 18-Inch M light alloy double-star-spoke Style 848 M two-tone rims, wrapped in 225/45 R18 run flat tyres (front), and 225/40 R18 run flat tyres (rear).
Dashboard of the new G20 LCI is sporty and premium with high levels of craftsmanship. It features soft touch elements with refined aluminium 'Rhombicle' anthracite M interior detailing all around.
Main highlight being the massive screen taking command of the top half of the dash, the toggles and the layout arrangement are well put, as it is simple with very easy reachability and driver oriented.
One half of the new BMW Curved Display, it features a fully digital 12.3-Inch LCD high-resolution instrument cluster with a head-up display, running on BMW Operating System 8 (BMW OS 8).
Black Vernasca leather is the default upholstery. The 330i and 330e add on Mocha. Sport seats for driver and front passenger, and comes with electric adjustments and driver side memory function.
It offers plenty of head, shoulder and legroom thus front and rear occupants get ample space. The space is sufficient for a sedan.
It has numerous storage areas including side door pockets, compartmentalised storage areas in the centre console including a cavern storage space in the centre console armrest and a decent-sized glove box.
There are two cup holders. Two located in the front and two more in the rear cabin.
It gets 4 USB ports located all around the cabin, plus a wireless charging tray in the centre console.
The boot features a remote-control activation with contactless opening function, and has a 480-Litre of cargo space. The 330e gets a smaller volume at 375-Litre.
The new G20 LCI features a suite of Driving Assistant Package, which includes Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning with active steering interventions, Front Collision Warning, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Rear Collision Prevention, Speed Limit Info, Manual Speed Limit Assist, Parking Assistant, Active Park Distance Control, Reversing Assistant, Lateral Parking Aid, Reversing Assist Camera, Blind Spot Monitoring System, and Cruise control with braking function.
Passive safety includes 6 airbags (driver and front passenger, front side, front and rear curtain), seat belt anchors with front reminders, ISOFIX, front and rear parking sensors, parking camera, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Auto Cruise Control (ACC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), runflat tyres, security alarm, and immobiliser.
The suite of Driving Assistant Package will make cruising through the city or speeding through the highway a more relaxing experience.
Featuring the other half of the BMW Curved Display, the infotainment sees a 14.9-Inch central touchscreen, running BMW Live Cockpit Professional on the latest BMW Operating System 8.
It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone connectivity, navigation, 5G network, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and over-the-air software update.
The 320i variant has a standard six-speaker setup, while the 330i and 330e get a HIFI loudspeaker system with a 10-speaker setup.
Unchanged pre-facelift, the G20 LCI harbours the same 2.0-Litre in-line four-cylinder turbocharged engine (B48), but with variant specific tune ups.
The 320i makes 184 HP and 300 NM of torque, the 330i makes 258 HP and 400 NM of torque, and the 330e plug-in hybrid paired with an electric motor makes a total output of 292 HP and 420 NM.
All three variants are paired to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.
Powered by a rear-wheel-drive system.
The 320i accelerates from zero to 100 KM/H in 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 235 KM/H, the 330i does it in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 250 KM/H, and the 330e has a time of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 KM/H.
The fuel tank capacity is 59-Litres and it is capable of delivering a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.2 to 6.4L/100 KM (320i), 7.4 to 6.6L/100 KM (330i), and 1.8 to 1.3L/100 KM (330e).
Powering the 330e’s electric motor is a 12-KWH Lithium-Ion battery, offering a total driving distance of 56 KM. Charging takes 3.6 hours with a 3.7-KW AC wallbox charger, or six hours with the provided portable charger and a domestic three-pin socket.
It has Comfort Access with engine push-button start, hands-free powered boot operation, triple-zone automatic climate control, welcome carpet lights, ambient lighting, multi-function steering wheel, steering tilt and telescopic functions, power adjustable front sport seats with driver seat memory function, parking cameras with parking sensors, automatic anti-dazzle interior mirrors, paddle shifters, auto high-beam and rain sensing wipers.
It is solid and extremely comfortable. It has a handling that is more refined and agile. Overall, the ride quality is good and has a wonderfully smooth engine power and transmission delivery.
Good sound insulation. BMW have improved the NVH aspects of the vehicle hence the cabin is able to suppress wind, road and tyre noises well and make them barely noticeable even when cruising through bumpy asphalts.
The BMW 3 Series (G20) LCI is in a class of its own. Enveloped by an aggressively luxurious appeal, it commands a sharper presence that has been paired to a formidable dynamic driving experience.
A striking exterior, it is very well designed with the harmonious proportions, powerful contours, and emphasis on the aggressive body sculpture.
Quality of the equipment and materials installed inside and outside of the car really impresses with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.
Overall, the new facelifted range is more than just a strong character, it is a great vehicle that offers a sporty outlook, sporty performance, practicality and comfort all in one.
