Summary

BMW’s luxury Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW X7, upgraded (Life Cycle Impulse – LCI) for the 2023 model year.

The locally-assembled (CKD) sole variant (X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence) tags at MYR 611,460 (OTR, w/o insurance - standard two-year, unlimited mileage warranty).

Opting for the extended five-year, unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service package, the price increases to MYR 654,800. 

Also, included with the purchase is BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline and a BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App – BMW Privileges Card.

Five exterior colours. Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic, Skyscraper Grey Metallic, and Sparkling Copper Grey Metallic.


Exterior

Body Dimensions

Weighing in at 2,320 KG, the 2023 BMW X7 is 5,151 MM long, 2,000 MM wide, 1,805 MM tall, and has a wheelbase spanning 3,105 MM.


Front View

Stocky, muscular and with a dash of elegance, its overall exterior radiates an imposingly commanding presence.

Updated with a new front-end, it features a new double-slat kidney grille, flanked by two aluminium-satinated trims framing the lower air-intakes.


Rear View

An angularly- and horizontally-contoured design emphasising its broad stance, the rear-end matches the front with solidly robust proportions.

Featured is a simple roof-edge spoiler, a glass-covered chrome strip (middle tailgate), and a bumper-integrated aluminium-satinated diffuser.


Headlamps

Contributing to a fierce and focused looking outlook, installed is a pair of inward-tilted and slit-like horizontally-split headlamp design.

The slim upper section houses the turn-indicators and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), while the darkened lower section houses the adaptive matrix LED units.


Tail Lamps

Slim, wraparound and three-dimensional, the claw-shaped tail lamps, linked by a glass-covered chrome bar, hold a very striking presence.

Fitted with LED units, they feature a matching claw-shaped light graphic, and horizontal turn-indicators.


Side Mirror

The side mirrors are electronically adjusted and folded, with turn- and blind spot-indicators. They also come with the expanded exterior mirror package.

Wheels

Fitted is a set of 22-Inch V-spoke style 756 Bicolour light alloy rims, wrapped in 275/40 R22 (front) and 315/35 R22 (rear) Continental PremiumContact 6 SSR run-flat tyres.


Interior

Dashboard

Cockpit design of the 2023 BMW X7 exudes high levels of craftsmanship and build quality, featuring ultra-modern technology in an elegant and digital aesthetic.

The dashboard is outfitted with ‘Lindenwood Fineline’ open-pored fine-wood trim, matching the rest of the cabin.

Main highlight is the one-piece BMW Curved Display, accentuated by the crystal- and prism-like light bar (ambient light) beneath the decorative trim.

Completing the layout is the ‘CraftedClarity’ glass treatment, detailed on the gear selection lever, iDrive Controller and engine start/stop button.


Instrument Cluster

One half of the BMW Curved Display, it features a fully digital 12.3-Inch LCD high-resolution instrument cluster with a Heads-Up Display (HUD).

Featuring the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, it runs on the latest BMW Operating System 8 (BMW OS 8), and supports the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.


Seats

Presented in a six-seater configuration, the seats are upholstered in new Sensafin leather (Black/Cognac) with decorative stitching.

Equipped up front are Comfort Seats with electronic adjustments, active ventilation, and memory and massage functions.

The second-row gets two captain seats with electric adjustments, and the third-row sees standard seats with a 50:50 split-fold configuration.

Completing the ambience is the Alcantara Anthracite M headliner, featuring the ‘Sky Lounge’ panoramic glass roof (6-colour ambient light, auto front tilt/slide).


Space

It offers very generous head, shoulder and leg rooms. The cabin’s spaciousness is majorly due to its massive build, which is robustly long, wide and tall.


Steering Functions

The three-spoke sport leather steering wheel comes with multi-switches (media, vehicle settings), paddle shifters, tilt and telescopic electric adjustments, and an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Storage Space

It has numerous storage areas including side door, back seat and armrest pockets, compartmentalised and caverned spaces in the centre console, and a decent-sized glove box.

Cup Holders

Several cup holders are strategically placed in the cabin, and they all come with a temperature control function (heating/cooling).


Charging Ports

Several charging outlets are present, strategically located all around the cabin. Included are USB ports, 12-V power sockets, and a wireless charging tray.

Boot Space

The boot features a contactless opening function (Comfort Access Package). It has 300-Litres of cargo space, and up to 2,120-Litres with the rear seats folded down.

Active Safety

The 2023 BMW X7 features the following set of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Under Driving Assistant, grouped are Lane Change Warning, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Rear Collision Prevention, Exit Warning and Reversing Assist Camera.

Whereas, under Parking Assistant Professional, grouped are Active Park Distance Control, Reversing Assist, Lateral Parking Aid, Surround View System and Remote View 3D.

Others include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and Tyre pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Passive Safety

Passive safety includes six airbags (driver and passenger, front side, front and rear curtain), seat belt (anchor, pretensioner, reminder), ISOFIX, electric child safety lock (rear doors), blind-spot info system, high-beam assistant, parking sensors (6-front, 6-rear), parking camera (360-degree), active protection, and security alarm and immobiliser.

Drive Modes

Four drive modes at the driver’s disposal. Comfort, Sport, Eco and Adaptive.

Infotainment

Featuring the other half of the BMW Curved Display, the infotainment sees a 14.9-Inch central touchscreen, running BMW Live Cockpit Professional (BMW OS 8). 

It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and BMW Gesture Control.


Driver Assistance

The suites of ADAS will make cruising through the city or speeding through the highway a more relaxing experience, as well as manoeuvring the huge SAV in and out of any tight spots an easier task.

Sound System

Installed is a setup of the Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Engine

Powering the 2023 BMW X7 is a B58, 3.0-Litre TwinPower Turbo, in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a 48-V mild-hybrid system. 

The setup produces 380 HP/280-KW at 5,500 to 6,500 RPM, and 540 NM at 1,500 to 5,200 RPM.


Transmission

Fitted is an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.


Drivetrain

Power is sent to all four wheels (AWD), via the xDrive all-wheel drive system.


Acceleration

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 5.8 seconds, and the top speed is 245 KM/H.


Fuel Consumption

The fuel tank capacity is 83-Litres, fuel consumption is 9.5-L/100 KM, and the C02 emission is 217-G/KM.

Rear Air Vents

There are air-conditioning vents present in the rear cabin. Both the second- and third-row of seats get dedicated vents and controls.

Ride Comfort

Overall, it is solid and extremely comfortable with a handling that is more refined and agile. The ride quality is luxuriously excellent, and the dual-natured drive has a wonderfully smooth engine power and transmission delivery.

All of these are courtesy of the Adaptive Two-Axle Air Suspension, Executive Drive Pro (active roll stabilisation) and Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering) setups.

Sound Insulation

Good sound insulation, with all the NVH aspects of the build accounted for. The cabin is able to suppress engine, wind, road and tyre noises extremely well, making them barely noticeable at all speeds and even when cruising through bumpy asphalts.

Conclusion

The upgraded 2023 BMW X7 is in a class of its own. Enveloped by an uber luxurious appeal that commands a presence like no other. 

Its striking exterior is very well designed with the harmonious proportions, powerful contours, and emphasis on the robust body sculpture. 

Quality of the equipment and materials installed inside and outside impresses with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.

Overall, the 2023 BMW X7 is just a strong character, a great vehicle that offers an elegant outlook, sporty performance and comfort, all in one.
