Summary

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) has officially unveiled the fully-imported SUV two years after its world debut in Frankfurt, the 2021 latest generation Land Rover Defender 110 is now in Malaysia.

Despite earlier speculation that the Defender would be launched in both the 90 three-door and the 110 five-door body styles, only the 110 has been introduced at present.

The 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 is available in two petrol engines guises for the Malaysian market, priced from RM 798,800 for the 2.0L and RM 998,800 for the 3.0L MHEV.




Exterior

Body Dimensions

The measurements are 5,018 mm long, 2,105 mm wide, 1,967 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 3,022 mm and weighing 2,261 kg for the 2.0L and 2.361 kg for the 3.0L MHEV.


Front View

The Land Rover Defender 110 emphasises on off-road luxury and it comes with a very robust yet elegant design. 

The smooth edges and creases that make up the front of the vehicle, which is also adorned by the large Defender moniker at the top edge makes the body pop with style.

The front showcases a massive silver finished lower grille that is integrated with the lower vent, creating a large rectangular-shaped with silver and black nett-like design housing.

Paired to the slim rectangular integrated fog lamps located at the lower edges of the bumper adds a finishing premium touch to the front fascia.


Headlamps

The Land Rover Defender 110 gets sharp and square-shaped Matrix LED headlights with signature DRLs. The pointed and striking design gives the front a more focused and athletic look.


Tail Lamps

At the back, the taillights get full LED units. It consists of four block-shaped styles and is paired with a centre high-mounted stop light.

Side Mirror

The side mirrors are power adjusted and power folded with approach lights, heating, driver side dimming functions and blind spot indicators.

Wheels

The Land Rover Defender 110 rides on a set of 20-inch gloss sparkle silver finished 5-spoke Style 5098 alloy rims with off-road tyres.

Dashboard

The dashboard gets a driver-oriented layout with a more modern and sleeker looking layout. The material quality is high, with a cross dash beam in light grey powder coat brushed finish that gives an overall premium feel.

The Land Rover Defender 110 gets a 12.3-inch interactive driver with a head-up display instrument cluster.


Seats

The Land Rover Defender 110 seats are finished in Ebony Windsor leather upholstery. It gets power adjustable 14-way heated and cooled electric memory front seats with 4-way manual headrests. The rear features 40:20:40 folding seats with centre armrest.


Space

The Land Rover Defender 110 offers a very generous head, shoulder and legroom thus front and rear occupants get ample space. The space is very spacious and luxurious overall especially in the back, considering the robust body design that it has.


Storage Space

It has generously equipped storage areas including large sized door pockets, side door armrest pocket, a couple of storage areas in the centre console including a cavern storage space in the centre console armrest and a decent-sized glove box.




Cup Holders

There are 2 cup holders located in the front, 2 in the rear centre armrest and also 2 bottle holders in the rear door side panels.


Charging Ports

The Land Rover Defender 110 features one 12V power socket in the front, two in the rear lower part of the centre console and one in the loading bay. As for the USB, one port at the centre console up front and two in the rear.


Boot Space

The boot space of 1,075-litre is flexible and there’s enough boot space to store about 3 medium-sized luggage. With the rear seats folded up, the boot space is really big and vast measuring at 2,380-litre.

The Land Rover Defender 110 comes with 360-degree parking aid, 3D surround camera, ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, ClearSight Ground View, speed limiter, hill start assist, lane keep assist, rear traffic monitor, traffic sign recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM).

Passive Safety

Passive safety includes six airbags for driver and passenger front, side curtain and thorax airbags, seat belt anchors, reminders and pre-tensioners, front and rear parking sensors, auto parking, reverse parking camera, ISOFIX, immobilizer and security alarm.




Infotainment

The Land Rover Defender 110 features a 10-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Hands Free Telephone Function (HFT), Bluetooth and AUX connectivity and is paired with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.


Sound System

Features a setup of 10-speaker Meridian with 400-watt sound system.

Performance

Engine

First variant of the Land Rover Defender 110 is fitted with a 2.0L Ingenium 4-cylinder Electronic Control, Direct-injection petrol mill that produces a maximum power of 300 PS (296 hp) at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.

Second variant features a 3.0L MHEV powertrain with a conventional twin-scroll turbocharger and an advanced 48-volt e-supercharger, enabling it to surge with 400 PS (395 hp) of maximum power and 550 Nm of maximum torque, while setting a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds.


Transmission

Both mills churn with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, with a two-speed transfer case.

Drivetrain

Power is sent to all four wheels.


Acceleration

The 2.0L can sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds while hitting a top speed of 191 km/h, whereas the 3.0L MHEV sets a time of 6.1 seconds while hitting the same top speed.

Fuel Consumption

Both the Land Rover Defender 110 sports a 90-litre fuel tank capacity.

It has smart keyless operation with push engine start, remote powered boot operation, multi-function steering wheel, steering telescopic functions, power adjustable with 14-way heated and cooled electric memory front seats with 4-way manual headrests, the five-seater comes with a two-zone climate control system, while the seven-seater gets a three-zone system with rear cooling assist, an air quality sensor and cabin air ionisation, 360-degree parking aid, 3D surround camera, ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, ClearSight Ground View, front and rear parking sensors, power adjusted and power folded side mirrors with approach lights, heating, driver side dimming functions and blind spot indicators, Alpine roof lights and a sliding panoramic roof, auto headlights and rain sensing wiper function.

There are two air vents located in the rear row seats.

The seats are comfortable and the ride is smooth and the off-road prowess is powerful. Especially over long journeys with the amount of cabin space it offers along with the seating configurations.

The Land Rover Defender 110 has good sound insulation. It has great overall NVH levels with plenty of vibration control and soundproofing materials.
