Peugeot has been in the pickup truck business since 1938, with commercial flatbed vehicles like the Peugeot 202 and 203, Peugeot 403 and 404, and Peugeot 505.

85 years later, today in 2023, the French Lion has breached the Malaysian shores with its latest four-wheeler.

Offering ruggedness and adaptability, to suit both professional and family needs, the new Peugeot Landtrek.

Fully-imported (CBU) from China in a single variant (1.9D Allure), its starting price of MYR 120,072 (OTR, w/insurance), comes with a five-year and 100,000 KM warranty.

Six exterior colours available. Ceramic White, Silver Grey, Rockstone Grey, Magnetic Blue, Red Rubi, and Olea Green (Landtrek-exclusive).

Body Dimensions

Weighing in at 2,095 KG, the new Peugeot Landtrek stands at 5,331 MM long, 1,925 MM wide, 1,877 MM tall, a wheelbase spanning 3,180 MM, and ground clearance of 235 MM.

Front View

Elegantly refined, its blocky and athletic exterior has a front end with a commandingly vertical grille, adorned by the Peugeot Lion in the centre.

The sculpted lines of the bumper are accentuated by a chrome trim around the grille, and a set of fog lamps with black surrounds.

Rear View

The rear end’s design is also toned and elegant, compensating the front nicely with clean cut contours, while still retaining the robust-looking outlook.

Completing the layout is a shiny chrome bumper, and the Peugeot emblem and script, largely placed in the middle of the tailgate.

The headlamps are slanted inwards, boxy to match the layout, and elegantly-shaped with a borderline focused design.

They are full LED units with signature illumination, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), and auto On/Off function (automatic headlamps).

Tail Lamps

Vertically wrapped-around, the tail lamps contribute a lot of aesthetic to the rear layout, compensating the minimalistic style well. The set comes in bulb units.

Side Mirror

The side mirrors are power-adjustable and -folding with turn indicators.

Fitted are ventilated disc brakes (front), and drum brakes (rear).

Installed is a set of 18-Inch six-spoke diamond cut alloy rims, shod in 265/60 R18 tyres.

The new Peugeot Landtrek has a simple and straightforward dashboard layout, featuring a black leatherette scheme with silver trim detailing.

Accentuating the layout are the piano key style switches, and other logically and driver-centrically placed accessibilities. Overall craftsmanship is premium quality.

Instrument Cluster

Installed is a 4.2-Inch digital colour instrument display.

Continuing the all-black theme, the five-seater also sees upholstery in black leatherette.

Both front seats get six-way power and two-way lumbar support adjustments, while the rear seats have a 23-degree tilt adjustment and 60:40 split- or full folding layout.

Space in the double-cab is ample for front and rear occupants, offering plenty of head, shoulder and legroom. The space is generous due to its stocky build.

Storage Space

Several storage areas, e.g., side door and backseat pockets, centre console compartmentalised storage areas, and a decent-sized glove box.

Steering Functions

Fitted is a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel with multi-switches (Audio, Bluetooth, Hands-free), and tilt and telescopic functions.

The steering is aided via hydraulic power steering, and has a turning radius of seven metres (curb to curb).

Charging Ports

It comes with three USB ports, and two 12-V power outlets.

Active Safety

The new Peugeot Landtrek gets Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Hill Descent Control (HDC). Under Electronic Stability Program (ESP) suite, grouped are Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and Anti-Skid Regulation (ASR).

Passive Safety

Passive safety includes seven airbags (front-driver/passenger/side/curtain, rear-curtain), three-point ELR seat belts (warning, pretensioner, force limiter, anchors), ISOFIX (anchors, top tethers), 360-degree view camera, reverse camera (distance, width guidelines), parking sensors (front-two, rear-four), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), and immobiliser with anti-theft.

Drive Modes

There are two basic drive modes – Eco, Sport, and three off-road modes selectable via the electronic 4WD transfer dial – 2WD, 4WD-High, 4WD-Low.

It is installed with a 10-Inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice command, navigation, USB, Bluetooth and hands-free.

Sound System

It features a six-speaker setup.

The new Peugeot Landtrek sports a 1.9-Litre turbo, in-line four-cylinder, diesel engine, making 150 HP at 4,000 RPM and 350 NM of torque at 1,800 to 2,800 RPM.

It gets a six-speed automatic transmission.

Spreads all power equally via a part-time 4WD system, and comes equipped with a mechanical rear differential lock.

Fuel Consumption

Fitted is a fuel tank capacity of 80-Litres, and the recommended fuel type for the turbodiesel engine is Euro 4 and above.

The new Peugeot Landtrek gets Advanced Keyless Entry, engine start/stop button, automatic headlamps, passenger grab handles (seven), steering wheel (multi-function, tilt, telescopic), dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, six-way power and two-way lumbar support adjustments (front seats), 23-degree tilt adjustment (rear seats), 360-degree camera, reverse camera (distance, width guidelines), parking sensors (front, rear), side steps, and bedliner.

Rear Air Vents

Rear air-conditioning vents are present.

Ride Comfort

Solid, firm and robust is to be expected from a four-wheeler, though this particular pickup offers more, in terms of easy manoeuvrability and interior comfort.

It is installed with double wishbone (front) and leaf spring (rear) suspension setups, which is further paired with a mechanical rear differential lock (extreme off-roading).

Elsewhere, it is spacious and safe, and the seats are supportive and well-bolstered, offering comfort on extreme terrains.

Sound Insulation

It has good sound insulation, covering all the NVH aspects, and there are no abnormal wind issues at any speed.

Wrap Up

The 2023 Peugeot Landtrek offers a newer and better outlook, with its sophisticatedly robust demeanour.

Its exterior is sporty with toned, boxy and powerful contours, while the interior is premium built with quality materials and refined detailing.

Then, the off-road performance technologies installed makes the whole dirt adventure an exhilarating experience.

Overall, the new Peugeot Landtrek is satisfactory, a well-blended four-wheeler, combining design, performance and comfortability.
