Locally-assembled (CKD), it underpins Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), and is built based on the Geely Binyue SUV.

Exuding an overall sharp and sporty outlook, its design is based on the Geely Binyue but with signature Proton elements.
Highly-sculpted, the front-end can be seen with the Proton ‘Infinite Weave’ grille, detailed with an Auburn Red strip and the Proton emblem.
A silver trim stretches across the middle, and filling in the layout are angularly-shaped lower corner and middle air-vents, integrated with the jutting-out front lip.
The sporty appeal furthered, it boasts a horizontally-lined and symmetrically-designed rear-end, with a slightly dipped roofline.
Featured is a middle-indent roof-edge spoiler, paired to a silver trim with the Proton script, stretching across the middle of the tailgate.
Completing the layout is a large diffuser with corner-integrated quad exhausts. Lower bumper fitments (front, rear) match the fender and side sill fitments (all-black).
Boxy and sharp, the head lamps are linked with the grille’s frame, creating a unison look.
Standard fitments are LED projector headlamps, featuring LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).
Variants Executive, Premium and Flagship add on LED fog lamps, and Auto On/Off and welcome light functions. Variant Flagship furthers with auto high beam.
Angularly-shaped, the tail lamps harmonise well with the rear’s outlook. Horizontally and evenly positioned, installed are LED combination units.

The X50 gets a sporty and symmetrically-aligned dashboard, adorned with soft-touch upper and metal-finished middle sections.

Commanding the centre is a screen setup, paired to a high-rise, bridge-style centre console (metal-finished).
Overall, the cockpit is well designed. All the buttons and other accessibilities are purposefully arranged, driver-centric and user-friendly.
Variants Standard and Executive get an analogue metre display. Variants Premium and Flagship upgrade to a 7.0-Inch digital instrument cluster display.

Interior of the five-seater comes in two colour schemes. All-black (Standard, Executive) and red-black (Premium, Flagship).
Variant Standard gets fabric upholstery, while variants Executive, Premium and Flagship upgrade to leather.
Fitted up front is a power adjustable driver seat (Premium, Flagship) and a manual adjustable passenger seat. The rear features a 60:40 split-fold function.
The seats (front, rear) are highly-bolstered and comfortably firm, with front sliding centre armrest, and rear folding centre armrest.

Drivability and comfort levels are satisfactory. Specifically tuned for the rough and tough Malaysian roads.
Overall, the ride quality is firm, and the interior is very spacious and extremely comfortable.
Good sound insulation, covering all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects. The cabin is refined and peaceful, alienated from most of the road noises.
The Proton X50 is a great SUV. Offering comfortability and space, as well as performance and style, all in one build.
Underneath the highly-sculpted shell is a comprehensive interior, providing a myriad of advanced connectivity, safety systems and creature comfort features.
