The Proton X70 was launched in early 2018 and now the latest 2020 CKD model comes in four variants; the 1.8 Standard 2WD, 1.8 Executive 2WD, 1.8 Premium 2WD and the 1.8 Premium X 2WD. Prices range from RM94,800 to RM122,800.  Being the first car to be produced under the Geely and Proton partnership, this vehicle features impeccable safety and performance compared to previous Proton models. 

The measurements are 4,519 mm in length, 1,831 mm in width and 1,694 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,670 mm. 

The newest generation of the Proton X70 was heavily influenced by its counterpart, the Geely’s Boyue. The grille’s pattern was inspired by wood and batik carvings to tap into the local market better. The design is also made to look like the updated Proton’s tiger logo, which exudes a definite look unique to the X70.

The rear view of the X70 gives a polished look and feel with the two engine exhaust pipes as well as the addition of the rear fog lamp that ensures safety for drivers on the road.

The CKD X70 is fitted with LED headlamps that blend in well with the front grille to resemble the face of a tiger, similar to Proton’s new logo. 

The vehicle is fitted with LED rear combination lights for all variants, maintaining the same feel as the headlamps. 

The Standard variant comes with 17-inch alloy wheels while the Executive variant is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels. The two upper variants which are the Premium and Premium X variant will come with 19-inch alloy wheels.  

The combination of soft touch leather and good quality hard plastic gives the dashboard a clean yet stylish look to it. 

All variants are equipped with 7-inch LCD instrument cluster displays that overall match the aesthetics of the X70 interior. 

The Premium and Premium X variants come with 5 seats and are finished with plush Nappa leather. For the driver seat, it is equipped with a 6-way power seat with 2-way lumbar support while the front passenger seat provides a 4-way power seat to ensure comfort and convenience. 

The X70 offers spacious space for the driver as well as the passengers, hence there will be no issues in headroom and legroom shortage even after extending the seats fully. 

The vehicle has a decent sized glove compartment that can accommodate any necessities and several storage compartments in the centre console and in the front row next to the two seats.

There are four cup holders altogether in the front and second row armrests, as well as four bottle holders for all four doors. 

The X70 has a total of six USB charging ports with one charging port being located near the rearview mirror, which allows drivers to install their own dashcam efficiently. With that being said, two of the charging ports are located in the second row near the central armrest and the remaining are located in the front row. The vehicle is also fitted with two 12-volt power sockets with one located in the front center console and one in the boot. 

The X70 is equipped with 512 litres of boot space. Additionally, the vehicle will be fitted with power tailgates with handsfree function. Even so, the 60:40 rear split seats ensure that storage space is more than enough.

To name a few, the Premium X X70 has the following active safety features; Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

The passive safety features include six airbags located and the front, side and curtain, three-point safety belt with pretensioner and load limiters as well as ISOFIX child seats anchor points. 

All four variants come with three drive modes, which includes Normal, Eco and Sport modes. 

The X70 features the Geely Key User Interface, GKUI and features an 8-inch touchscreen with “Hi Proton” as well as an extended range of voice commands, online music streaming, navigation, smartphone connectivity as well as Bluetooth and 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. 

The Premium X variant comes with an Advanced Driving Assistance System which introduces 19 different sensors and five cameras to ensure safety while driving. It is also equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) which allows safe cruising distance with vehicles in front. 

All of the variants for the X70 CKD comes with a 1.8-litre TGDi turbocharged four-cylinder and Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) engine which develops 181 hp from 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. 

The vehicle is equipped with a 7-speed Wet Dual Clutch Transmission with manual mode for all the variants.

Power is sent to the two front wheels.

The car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.

The fuel consumption is approximately 7.6 l/100km.

Convenience features include the “Hi Proton” voice command function, remote control with Proton Link app, dual-zone climate control with air quality management system, ventilated front seats and smartphone connectivity. 

Rear air vents available for the second row occupants. 

It has a profound drive quality with the upgraded stiffer suspension, which has resolved their body roll problems as well as ensuring a more comfortable ride. 

The sound insulation in the car is seamless as road and wind noises are dampened during driving. The CKD X70 is also said to have one of the quietest cabins in the mass market SUV segment.
