The Renault Captur was officially introduced in Malaysia back in 2017, and this B-segment crossover is only offered in one variant, the Captur TCe 120 EDC.
Locally assembled, the stylish and powerful turbocharged SUV rolls with an on-the-road inclusive of SST, without insurance price of RM 107,980.
The Renault Captur stands at 4,122 mm in length, 1,778 mm in width, 1,567 mm in height and with a wheelbase spanning 2,606 mm.
It boasts a fairly sporty front end, featuring a slightly upward curve design for the overall layout. Placed in the centre is the Renault badging enclosed by a medium-sized grille with finely-chromed edging as a finishing touch.
Further paired with the lower air vent stretching across the middle that gets an integrated grey diffuser, it completes the SUV’s overall stylish outlook.
The rear exhibits a bulbous yet sleek layout with a simple roof edge spoiler commanding the top half. Then, commanding the centre tailgate is a chromed out Captur script and just like the front, a Renault badging positioned atop the script.
At the bottom, a protruding and fairly large black bumper is present and it also gets an integrated grey diffuser to match the front.
The Captur gets a set of halogen projector headlights with C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), which are both stylish and help create attraction to the vehicle.
The tail lamps are LED units with a wraparound and oval-shaped layout that feature three C-shaped graphics akin to the front.
It is power adjusted and power folded, with turn-indicators.
It rides on a set of 17-inch two-tone chrome and black alloy rims wrapped in 205/55 R17 tyres.
The dashboard gets an all-black treatment with silver trims as a finishing detail around the air-conditioning vents, the centre console and the spokes of the steering wheel. Overall, its cockpit layout is built simple, modern and practical to ensure a better driving experience.
The Renault Captur gets a full LCD digital instrument cluster.
It gets full black ErgoDesign leather power adjustable seats, integrated headrests, adjustable armrests and height adjustments for the driver and passenger.
Front and rear occupants have no issues with space as the Captur has enough headroom, leg room and shoulder room.
It has practical little spaces like a centre console storage box, medium sized glove box, front seatback pockets and front side door storage.
There are three cup holders, two in the front centre console and one in the rear part of the centre console. As for the bottle holders, it has four, with one located at each side door panel.
The Renault Captur gets one 12V power socket located in the front and one USB port, also in the front.
It gets up to 455 litres of boot space that can fit up to three large sized travel bags easily.
The Renault Captur comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and cruise control.
Passive safety includes 4 Airbags (driver/front passenger and front side airbags), seat belt reminders for the front seats and seat belt pre-tensioners for all seats, front and side impact beams, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, immobilizer and ISOFIX for the back seats.
There are only two drive modes – Normal and Eco.
The Renault Captur is powered by a 1.2L, petrol, 4-cylinder inline, DOHC turbocharged engine that produces 120 PS (118 hp) of power at 4,900 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
It comes equipped with a 6-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission.
It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, while hitting a top speed of 192 km/h.
It sports a 45-litre fuel tank and combust up to 5.4-litre for every 100 km.
It has, smart keyless-entry with push-to-start and walk-away door lock function, rain and light sensors, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, digital video recorder with impact sensing capabilities, height, tilt and telescopic electronic steering wheel adjustments, remote control boot operation and single zone automatic air-conditioning system.
The Captur feels flexible and firm at the same time. The SUV delivers a comfortable yet connected steering feel, with more linear and balanced weighing at all speeds. The overall driving experience is adequate.
It has good sound insulation, with very good NVH aspects, the ride is quiet, more refined and the road noise is mostly muted.
The Renault Captur exudes a sleek and energy filled outlook. Its smooth and simple body contours just oozes with contemporary style.
As for the interior, many elements of premium materials are present, plus it also provides ample space and practicality overall.
That said, inside and out the build quality is excellent. The Renault Captur with its distinctive outlook and enhanced powertrain, really is something special.
