High-voltage fault troubleshooting, electronic diagnostics and pre-delivery inspections. These were among the practical challenges facing Proton e.MAS's top technicians during a nationwide aftersales competition held on 14 and 15 October 2026.
And it wasn't just the technicians being tested. Service advisors also had to demonstrate how they handle customers, complaints and vehicle handovers.
The inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Aftersales Awards 2026 brought together 20 finalists from a competition involving 49 authorised dealerships, putting both technical expertise and customer service skills under the spotlight.
TL;DR: What You Need To Know
Organised by Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET) in collaboration with TVETMARA Masjid Tanah, the competition began with two rounds of online preliminary assessments.
From the participating dealerships, 10 technicians and 10 service advisors advanced to the finals at Proton e.MAS MBf EV Auto in USJ. The event concluded with an awards ceremony at DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam i-City.
But the interesting part wasn't simply who made the finals. It was what they were required to demonstrate.
Rather than relying solely on theoretical knowledge, the finalists underwent practical assessments based on tasks encountered in dealership operations.
For EV technicians, high-voltage troubleshooting is particularly relevant because electric vehicles involve systems and safety considerations that differ from conventional petrol-powered cars.
Meanwhile, the service advisor assessments focused on another important part of ownership: how clearly and effectively customers are assisted before and after their vehicles enter the workshop.
In other words, the competition wasn't just about fixing cars. It also examined how dealerships manage the overall aftersales experience.
After the final assessments, Mohamad Nabiel Suhairudin from Proton e.MAS Kota Bharu (JM Otomobil EV) emerged as the winner in the technician category.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Hafiz Hassanudin from Proton e.MAS Muar (Mayang Holdings) secured first place among service advisors.
Recognition also went to outstanding performers in warranty management, parts management and aftersales leadership.
Another notable recipient was Nurul Izzah from Proton e.MAS Melaka (NHL Auto Tech), who received the Outstanding Female Technician Award.
The top five performers in each main category received prizes ranging from RM1,000 to RM2,500.
Beyond the competition, PRO-NET is also working with TVETMARA Masjid Tanah to strengthen technical training within its aftersales network.
In August 2026, 37 technicians from 25 dealerships completed seven technical training modules and received Level 2 certification.
The company is now developing more advanced Level 3 and Level 4 certification pathways to further strengthen technical capabilities.
These training initiatives are separate from the awards competition, but both reflect PRO-NET's efforts to develop the skills needed to support its growing EV customer base.
Importantly, the 37 technicians represent participants who completed that particular Level 2 programme. The figure does not necessarily represent the total number of technicians qualified to service Proton e.MAS vehicles nationwide.
According to PRO-NET, Proton e.MAS has recorded more than 40,000 vehicle deliveries within 20 months. As its customer base grows, the company is also preparing to expand its dealership and aftersales network.
As of its October 2026 announcement, Proton e.MAS had 60 dealerships, including 46 authorised service centres and 10 Body & Paint facilities.
By the end of 2026, PRO-NET aims to increase those numbers further.
That represents a planned addition of 11 authorised service centres and four Body & Paint facilities, potentially making aftersales support more accessible as the network expands.
However, more service centres alone won't determine the ownership experience. The expertise of the people working in them matters just as much.
PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang emphasised in the company's announcement that delivering an EV marks the beginning of its relationship with customers, with capable technicians and knowledgeable service advisors playing an important role in maintaining their confidence.
Of course, a competition is only one part of the picture. For owners, what matters most is whether that expertise translates into consistent service across the Proton e.MAS network.
Because when something goes wrong with your EV, you probably won't be thinking about who won a technical competition.
You'll just want someone who knows exactly what they're doing.
