Mitsubishi looks set to roll-out a Renault-developed new global  EV crossover model. Pictured is its latest called the XForce.

It appears that Japanese automaker Mitsubishi is set to introduce a new small electric SUV in 2025, and it will reportedly be developed by Renault’s electric vehicle (EV) spinoff Ampere using Renault underpinnings too.

This move was confirmed by Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo during Ampere’s recent Capital Market Day event where the new and all-electric Twingo debuted. “I can confirm that Mitsubishi will produce a C (segment) SUV EV for the world on the AmpR Medium (platform),” said de Meo then.

Presently, Mitsubishi offers both the Colt hatch and 'new' ASX crossover models in Europe that basically rebadged Renault Clio and Captur models respectively.

Essentially, the AmpR Medium architecture is a renamed version of the Renault CMF-EV platform. Models that currently underpin it include the Nissan Ariya, as well as both the Megane E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech models from Renault, with the latter two being built by Renault at its plant in Douai, France.

The statement de Meo gave alludes that this upcoming C-segment SUV will roughly be similar in size as the Mitsubishi ASX. What’s unclear though is if this forthcoming new EV SUV will be designed by Mitsubishi or merely another rebadged Renault like the latest Colt and ASX it currently offers in Europe.

This reported new global EV might not come so soon in our region as the firm is present gearing up to fully roll-out the new-gen Triton pick-up truck and XForce compact crossover first.

Mitsubishi did list a new vehicle set for 2025 production in a investor presentation it laid out earlier this year – the very same where the firm’s EV pick-up truck plans was noted. Said model was listed as “Alliance – Renault” and forms one of four new EVs planned for 2028 roll-out.

Whilst confirmation of this new C-segment EV crossover SUV for 2025 oddly comes indirectly from its alliance partner, Mitsubishi has yet to announce anything on this front. Locally in our region, the firm is gearing up to roll-out its all-new generation Triton pick-up truck and XForce compact crossover first.
